Specialist Chin Sun Pak Wells was born in Tongduchun, Korea on September 13, 1976. In 1980, her family moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, where she resided for 18 years. She was one of three children and known to family and friends as “Sunny.” She was inducted into the National Honor Society at Eisenhower High School from which she graduated in 1995. Some of the sports she played while attending Eisenhower High School were basketball and softball. Her hobbies included gardening, photography and music. After high school, she worked two years for Wal-Mart as a Customer Service Manager in Lawton, Oklahoma, before entering the military. SPC Pak joined the U.S. Army in 1998 and completed her basic and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. She then served a tour of duty in Korea. Following her assignment in Korea, she became the Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel at the Pentagon. Her awards and decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Overseas Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and the M16A2 Weapon Expert Qualification Badge. SPC Pak was also Combat Lifesaver qualified. She was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Meritorious Service Medal.
