Gerard Nevins, Res.1 Gerard T. Nevins, 46, a 16 year resident of Campbell Hall, NY, died September 11, 2001 at World Trade Center while trying to rescue others. He was a New York City fireman. He was born February 21, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Patrick and Lorraine Holmes Nevins. Survivors are his wife Marie Smith Nevins of Campbell Hall, sons Daniel, age 7 and Andrew, age 5; grandmother Catherine Cabot; mother Lorraine and step-father Patrick Foley; brothers Stephen and wife Carol Nevins, Kingston, NY; John and wife Karan Nevins, Blauvelt, NY; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2001, 1 pm at St. Mary’s Church, Washingtonville. Donations to an Educational Fund in Daniel and Andrew Nevins name at The Hudson United Bank, 21 East Main, Washingtonville, NY 10992. FAMILY STATEMENT Gerard became a NYC fireman in 1983. He spent 12 years in Ladder 34, Engine 84, Washington Heights. In February 1995 he became a member of Rescue 1, Manhattan. Gerry was a recipient of various medals and awards for heroism including being named firefighter of the year in 2001. Outside of Rescue 1 Gerry’s life revolved around his family, friends, chickens, goats, rabbits and pigs. Gerry was a shining star in this life. His love for his family and friends and those who knew him has left this world a better place. He was a hero to us and now he’s a hero to the rest of the world.
